Community Education

Are you a student or intending to visit an Arabic speaking country for holiday, work or any other reasons, do you simply want to learn a new language. Interested?  Then look no further; we can help you because Al-Maktoum Institute offers courses that will give you an excellent grounding in the Arabic Language and Arab cultures.

Courses offered are:

  • Arabic for Holidays (6 weeks)
  • Arabic Beginners
  • Arabic Basic
  • Arabic Intermediate 1

These courses will be run from 6th February 2007 to 1st May 2007. Each course lasts for 12 weeks (except Arabic for Holidays) and will be held every Tuesday evening.

Holiday

This is a new short course (6 weeks). Classes focus on two of the main language skills of speaking, listening combined with aspects of local culture. The course will concentrate on conversations which give you essential phrases and vocabulary to help you deal with everyday situations when travelling. A perfect introduction to Arabic that will give you a good grip of the language. This course is recommended for those who wish to travel to an Arab country for short period.

Beginners

This course is aimed at complete beginners. It is for people who wish to learn Arabic but know nothing about the language. The course provides an introduction to the Arabic writing system, enabling the student to read and write basic words and sentences. The starting point therefore, will be with the Arabic alphabet, their vowel points, building vocabulary and some simple sentences. The aim is to enable the student to have basic recognition of the Arabic language in both reading and speech.

Basic

This course is designed for those who have some basic knowledge of Arabic. It will build upon previous beginners Arabic classes taught at the Institute and aims to help the students improve their reading and conversation ability.

Intermediate1

This course is designed for those who have some basic knowledge of Arabic.

It is for people who wish to improve their reading and conversational ability. Some basic Arabic texts will be chosen for study. 

Key Information: 

  • Evening classes will run for 12 weeks
  • All classes will be taught at the Institute campus. 
  • Evening classes are competitively priced at £20 per 12 weeks session for students and staff of the Institute, and £50 for others.
  • For the Arabic Language beginners' class, no previous knowledge is assumed.
  • For the Arabic Language intermediate class, basic knowledge of Arabic is required.
