Background
Khalid El-Awaisi is a graduate of the pioneering field of Islamicjerusalem Studies. His main speciality is in the historical-geography of Islamicjerusalem and the geographical interpretations of the Qur’an. He has published a groundbreaking monograph: Mapping Islamicjerusalem: a Rediscovery of Geographical Boundaries (ALMI Press 2007) in which he was able to unearth the geographical extents of Islamicjerusalem and other religious/ spiritual entities around it, namely, the Holy Land and Land of Barakah. This work won the Islamicjerusalem studies award from the Islamic Research Academy ISRA. Recently he has edited the book Geographical Dimensions of Islamicjerusalem (CSP 2008).
Currently he is the Director of the Centre for Islamicjerusalem Studies at the institute through which he has organised several of the International Academic Conferences on Islamicjerusalem as well as the publication of the Journal of Islamicjerusalem Studies.
